Friends Membership
The Friends are a great organisation to belong to. Membership gives you three magazines a year, packed full of dedicated Suffolk Regiment history, illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs - a must for anyone with an interest in the Suffolk Regiment.
Covering every period of the Regiments history from its creation in 1685 to its amalgamation in 1959, we have as yet, only repeated two photograph twice and there's plenty more fascinating stories from the Regiments 274 year history yet to come. As our membership grows, so does our collective knowledge base and with members who all have their 'pet' interests, there will be somebody, somewhere who can assist you with your research. We always try to help out members with what ever queries they might have and if we cannot help (because we don't know everything, and every day is a schoolday!) we can at least point you in the direction of someone who may know. Within the Friends are authors, historians, militaria and badge collectors along with local and family historians, so lots more avenues for you to seek assistance from. Within the Friends ranks, is the largest private library of Suffolk Regiment related books, pamphlets and photographs. Several of our members have private libraries and archives that dwarf those of the 'official' archive. Privately published memoirs, out of print volumes and a complete run of the Regimental Gazettes (including those of the first descendant Regiment and other short-lived Regimental periodicals) are all at the disposal of our membership, so again, if you are looking for a document or a picture or even a news clipping, then we may just be able to help you. We are always interested to hear about what our members are doing and what projects they are currently working on and we actively encourage our members to contribute to our magazine on any regimental subject. We will help wherever possible to identify and date your photographs, paperwork and documentation, and we can often narrow it down to specific years and in some cases, months, by our knowledge of the various buttons and badges and styles of uniform worn by the Regiment during its lifetime. We hope that you will consider joining the Friends so we can help you in your research. Membership categories:
